Year 2 - Falcons

Welcome to the Falcons class page

We are the year 2 class; Miss Baldwin is our teacher and Mrs Rainsbury is our teaching assistant. In this class we have fun whilst achieving the very best of our potential.

Topics

This year our topics are:

Full of Beans!

Sparkle and Shine!

Fire! Fire!

There's no place like home!

Home Learning

Children need to read to an adult at least 3 times a week. Mrs Rainsbury will aim to check the reading journals on a Monday to reward stickers and prizes. There is an opportunity for all children to change their book every day. As well as signing in reading journals, children need to get their reading raffles signed for a chance to win a free book! Happy reading!

Homework is given out on a Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. Homework in year 2 consists of:

Spellings - Spellings should be practiced every day and we are currently revising high frequency words and tricky words. The difficulty of spellings will increase as the year goes on and as we start to learn new spelling patterns. Phonics is still taught daily to help with reading and spelling. We enjoy learning the songs from 'Epic Phonics' on Youtube to help us with our tricky words.

Maths or Literacy task - A maths or literacy task is set weekly to reinforce a concept we have been learning in class. Occasionally, the children will be set a Mathletics task to complete. http://uk.mathletics.com/

Handwriting - In year 2 the children are beginning to learn how to join their writing. Each week a handwriting sheet, with the joins we have been practicing in class, will be sent home for them to practice.
